Not a lot I would think - W2K might run, XP /might/ run, if you can upgrade the memory to a decent level, and IF you can find XP drivers... |

If you explicitly mean the OS only - yes. Purchase an OS that will upgrade Windows 98 (like a non-OEM licensed copy of Windows XP) and use it to upgrade the OS on the laptop.
However - fair warning - a laptop that came with Windows 98 will probably not run much more of an OS than Windows 98 in any realistically speedy fashion.
What are the system specifications? Processor speed, amount of memory, amount of hard disk drive space?

I would NOT recommend attempting to upgrade a Win98 laptop to WinXP or any other Windows version, Renee. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin LINK DTS-L LINK
