You will have to provide much more information about your problem, such as the make and type of external drive, how you are trying to connect it, what steps you have gone through so far, at what point the problem appears and the exact verbatim error messages that you are getting. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "denson" <denson@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:EF0F4F59-1EFB-46E3-B607-55E56EE7B013@microsoft.com...

You have to provide us with much more info. Make and model number f your machine (or motherboard model, whatever.) I gave you a link to Everest in my reply to your previous post ("how can I install more colours on my pc") That and a good inspection of the exterior of the machine should give you all the names and numbers you need.
Don't forget that this need for data on your system includes all the data you have on your external devices.

Then don't.
Take the cover off your computer and install a regular IDE or (less likely) a SATA drive. Connect it directly to your motherboard. Don't mess around with external drives if you don't have to. |

Do you say that because it makes a work desk more messy or are external hard drives not as reliable as internal hard drives. I know external hard drives are more portable but I was wondering if you could kindly expand upon your answer for me 98 Guy. Thanks in advance because I do appreciate it.

I question the need for portability and think it's more the case that people don't know how to change the existing drive in their system or don't know that they can. Most times they don't know that they should, once their drives reach a certain age and failure becomes a real possibility.
And I wouldn't sacrifice performance to get portability. You won't get high performance with USB vs connecting an IDE or SATA drive directly to your motherboard. |
