I cannot access Windows Update for my XP Pro PC.
Running WU I get the first message but in the log the second is mentioned.
I have tried
1. to delete the SoftwareDist folder
2. to use the script

Hi Ake,
In order to solve problems with windows update you should take a look at LINK Myabe there you have an striaght solution to your problem.
Anyway I would recomend you to follow any of the procedures related at: LINK As there you will be able to solve the problem in 99% of the cases.

As I said the problem is solved by removing spyware. As I mentioned I use an XP PC

I did myself found after a while that my PC was infected by malware. Some of the Windows Update links (pdf-files for instance) send me also to other sites (commercials I think)
My normal protection did not find anything at scanning but after using a spyware removal tool the error disappeared.
I think MS should have a look at these malware
