Is it possible to set up a key to perform double click operations?

It would be easier to go to Folder Options (Control Panel) and set the system to use a single click
to open a program or file.
But it has always been possible to click once on the icon/folder and then press the "Enter" key to
perform the double click function.
At any rate, you still either have to click on the icon/folder once with the mouse.
Or if you use the arrow/tab keys to navigate on screen then the ENTER key does the second click
function.
