Windows 2000 vs Windows ME

I have a question: Is Windows ME the same as Windows 2000? The reason I am
asking is because my printer is not what it used to be. I can not load it
with paper, it jams or all pages go through almost all at once. I have to
feed it one page at a time. I bought the printer, 10/30/2000. It is a
Lexmark Z51. I was looking at a new printer and the requirements were for
one, Windows 2000 or later. I am still using my computer which is a Windows
98SE, bought 6/1/2000.

No.

ME is the last of the 9x line (i.e. 95 > 98 > ME)
W2000 is in the NT line (i.e. NT > 2000 > XP > V*st*)

It's getting harder to find a printer for Win98. However, some may still
have Win98 drivers for it.

I don't know if they make parallel port printers anymore (for the Win98SE
computers), but you can always consider getting a USB printer, as long as it
has Win98SE capability, but even that is limited now.

A couple of Brother printers (e.g. 2040, currently discounted at
distress prices) have Win98 drivers and parallel connector sockets.

Worse, there are many out there being sold with Win98SE listed as supported
but for which support has been removed or disabled in the installation
media.

OK. Or she could probably broaden her choices a bit more by considering
some USB printers, but even those are somewhat hard to find (as to being
Win98SE compatible) But I know at least some still have Win98SE drivers (but
most likely in the older series, and not the newest ones coming out).

Hi all,

I guess I will have to "nurse " this old printer along and hope it will last
as long as this computer. I have been looking around for one that will work
with this OS. I have not found one yet. Wish me luck on finding one.

When classes start on Monday, this old printer will get a work out. Last
year the Prof. called my computer "an old dinosaur". Yes Gary, I am taking
classes again. This one is called "Philosophy of Expression". It keeps the
mind from going stale. It challenges it. Of course, I enjoy the classes. If
I didn't, I would not take them.

Well, as you can imagine, since I currently don't have the room to set up my
Konika-Minolta or HP color laser printers (and the wife's business has first
claim on them), I have one scavenged Deskjet Printer that I can only make
work sometimes, and you can't have it!
