** I receive same dialog box--. Windows Media Player cannot play the file because a network error occurred.
I Click on more info button-- 0xC00D11C0: Cannot play the file Windows Media Player cannot play the file because a network problem occurred.

You will not get expert WinXP advice in a NG specializing in the Win98 OS. Any adviser will probably need to know your WMP version, OE version, Java settings etc.

Don, I posted here, I had originally posted in... microsoft.public.windowsmedia.player.web. My post NEVER posted. I posted here because I'm subscribed to this group for many years. I wasn't even sure it would post to the NG.
SORRY

| | | |
Gary, Glen, PCR, Took to NG microsoft.public.windowsmedia.player... Gary can play on a newly installed 98-SE OS, and his XP system w/SP-3. PCR could NOT on 98-SE, got some of the same errors at me. But now he's fixed, can play entire song, this IS absolutely crazy!!
I've still been checking it out and a media MVP has given more feedback. Confirmed, these arn't .WAV files but MP3, which I originally discovered. I saw the stats in the properties on the pages & in WMplayer when I called it up w/direct link pasting in my browser.
Neil couldn't play the songs at all, WMplayer barfed on him without a gag.
Very strange, I can tell you the songs USE to play entirely for me and not abruptly stop w/13 seconds left to play.
This IS the home page/INDEX page. LINK If you go visit, she calls them .WAV's and they show as .WAV's if you look in your TIF.
LINK Above is the SERVER location for the SONG on the INDEX page... called Angels In Wating and it does carry the .wav extension. *WMplayer WILL OPEN to play the song or should try, I can play all but 13 seconds.*
IS this not peculiar, how differently WMPlayer IS behaving on this website?? Below IS Neil Smith's response and the response I just wrote him. Star

None of the songs I tried play, because they're MP3 files but labelled on the server as WAV files : e.g. on this page
|
** So when you went to the Index page at LINK the song on that page didn't play or start-up?? The song DOES starts up and play for me.
** Very interesting Neil, she calls them .wav's on the index page and I've looked at them in the my TIF and saw the .wav extension, however I *knew* that was *very strange* the files were small. And, *I DID* know they were using the mpeg layer 3 codec, therefore WERE MP3, I mentioned this fact in my 2nd paragraph of my first post.
** I guess I figured it out... but needed verification, they are MP3, they would be huge files if they were indeed .wav.
** Yes, the above IS the link to server, will open WMplayer directly, the song IS playing now as I type, it's 3.36. The properties show it is a MP3 and on the pages she does have the WMPlayer control, it you right click on the control, you can also obtain the stats for the song. The song playing JUST ABRUPTLY STOPPED, 13 seconds were remaining to play. I wonder why I can play the song partially and you *can't* play the song at all??
| Quote: | The server tells WMP "OK it's wave audio" and WMP goes "fine - oops" and barfs.
|
** Right-- gags & barfs.
| Quote: | Rename both the music files and the in-page link on that page to end in .mp3, and Angelfire's servers will probably send the correct content type to media player.
I guess Frontpage which it seems you've used could have broken this, and I also imagine it can be used to fix links across a site if files are renamed.
|
** Yes I have had front page, quite some time ago though, actually when I was using 98-SE. I only have Word, Ppt & Excel at this time installed.
| Quote: | In the page above the player <object /> tag contains a URL in the HTML LINK **This link opens WMPlayer and the player plays most of the song Angel In |
Waiting for me**
| Quote: | which should be changed to LINK and the corresponding file renamed to MP3 as well. |
** The above link DOESN'T open WMPlayer, the browser goes to a *bad page-- Error 404*.
| Quote: | Once you've established that works, you'd have to do it for all the other MP3 files which are listed as WAV on that server.

And here's where I step out of the discussion, because whatever the issue is, I'm pretty certain it isn't in any of the Windows systems that have participated thus far, or any other PCs. The issue must be in the construction of the site, the coding of the player, and/or a problem in the sound file. Not something my brain is up to following.
Good luck!
