After typing a paragraph or line and hitting "Enter", word automatically puts in a space. I don't want that space. I've checked the spacing defaults and they are fine. Help tells me: Use single-spacing with no extra space between paragraphs On the Home tab, in the Styles group, click Change Styles. Point to Style Set, and click Word 2003.
"Word 2003" is not one of my options. I am using Office Home and Student 2007. Can anyone tell me how to eliminate the space between lines when hitting "Enter"? Thanks -- JoAnne |

Spacing between paragraphs is controlled by the Spacing Before and Spacing After settings (you can see the current values for spacing in the Paragraph group of the Page Layout tab). To change the default paragraph spacing, you can do the following: Press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S to display the Styles pane. Click the Manage Styles button. On the Set Defaults tab, specify the desired values (zero in this case). Before clicking OK, make sure to choose the "New documents based on this template" option.

I did everything you said, but the "After" paragraph spacing option keeps going back to "Auto" and won't accept my zero. I change it to zero, choose the "New documents based on this template" option and click OK. When I go back in and check it, it still says "Auto" and continues to space after a line or paragraph when I hit Enter. Thanks

Open the Normal template as a file, via the Open dialog box, and make the change directly in that file (no need to click "New documents based on this template"). Save and close Normal. That should work.
