Hi:
I have a Sony desktop VGC-RA716G with Windows XP MCE2005 SP3 and all updates installed. Have a Sound Max Integrated Digital Audio. I don't know it this is integrated with motherboard or is a separate sound card? Sounds as if it possibly is integrated with MB?
I have lost all abilities to play any sound files from either internal or external source. However, I am getting a bleed through on my speakers with sorta cracking or bumping sounds.
I have checked all speaker connections etc, but still no sound from sound files. If I recall I think that I heard the noise that I now hear previously to some degree when playing sound files recently.
Any help and/or suggestions will greatly be appreciated

In order, check: Device Manager, ( Classic View ) Sound, Audio (TAB), Default Device *If no device appears your sound driver isn't installed or is failing to load. Open the Sound Mixer and check for Mute states on Wave/Master sliders Make sure the Master slider is at or above 60% & Wave similar value Turn down any input sources that are not used ( Input Monitor, Mic...)

Test the speakers on another PC to either rule out or confirm them as the source of the issue. Test known good working speakers on your PC to either rule out or confirm the audio driver(s)/software as the source of the issue. Check the Sony support site for any updates that may pertain to the issue. LINK
If the integrated audio is presented as the source of the issue try uninstalling/reinstalling the driver(s)/software or disable the integrated audio and install a Sound card. Recently I worked on a machine that used SoundMax and had issues similar to yours. The speakers worked on another machine and none worked on the problem machine, installing a sound card regained audio for the user.

Thanks for all your timely postings.
After running everything about 2-3 times I finally found it was a cable connection.
I have a spare cloned HD and even replaced current HD with it to, only find out eventually the cable connection. Sometimes the simplest solution is the hardest to find....
