I have read many of the posts with regard to Win XP Updates from MS and
worked through the suggested steps. None seem to have resolved my problem.
This particular machine is running XP Home SP3. The following six updates
continually fail, even after all of the suggested steps plus others.
KB947355
KB945432
KB943973
KB945185
KB953432
KB907417
KB951548
KB921598
Even when hidden I still nagged to permit them to load. The registry has
been scrubbed (CCLEANER), the temp folders emptied, etc. All AV and firewalls
have been turned off during execution.
Any new ideas would be greatly appreciated

It would help *immensely* if you included the updates description
besides the KB number. One has to look up each KB to determine which
update failed.
Since these all appear to be security updates for Office 2K3:

they will not install.

Can You mention the error message if any
otherwsie check the windowsupdate.log file for the error message
steps to check the windows update log file
star->run->windowsupdate.log and press enter
check any ox8 error code with recent date

Put your Office 2003 CD into the appropriate drive bay then try again.
If you've hidden them at Microsoft Update but they've already downloaded,
you'll still be prompted to install them.

Thank you for your comments. Here are the troubled items with title:
* Title = Security Update for Microsoft Office 2003 (KB921598)
* Title = Security Update for Microsoft Office 2003 (KB947355)
* Title = Security Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 (KB945432)
* Title = Security Update for Microsoft Works Suite 2005 (KB943973)
* Title = Security Update for Office 2003 (KB945185)
* Title = Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 (KB953432)
* Title = Update for Office 2003 (KB907417)
Checked the windowsupdate.log for ox8 erros, none found. Used CTL F search
of the entire file as well as visual scan.
Inserted original disk & reboot, etc - no impact.
Will try calling MS support.
