Hi,

I'm looking for a programmer to help build a new classified ad network
for bloggers.
The goal is to make it easy for readers of a blog to buy and sell
items related to the blog’s content (gadgets, computers, collectibles,
etc.). The payout to the blog owner would be pay-per-click, a much
better deal than ebay or Amazon currently offers. There is a large
opportunity with this market. I have already gotten interest from
several bloggers in testing the system once it's ready. I have been
creating web applications for the past six years, and am located in
LA, in the San Fernando Valley. You would receive equity and a share
of any profits made.

The project would entail customizing an existing open source php
classified system and creating an AJAX widget to display and search
it. I have created a mockup of the widget here:(http://
img521.imageshack.us/img521/7089/watchblogmockupxu1.png)

You would be responsible for creating the complete system, so you
should have comfort in AJAX and LAMP.

If you're interested in learning more, please contact me with your
phone number and some links to your projects.

Thanks,
Russell

Sorry, I'm not a bank. I work for cash.

And why should I put together a complete system for you for free and
promises of partial income in the future? I could do it right now for
myself and have all of the future profits.

If you want someone to do the work, be prepared to pay the price.

Actually, we just had a thread on Beginners Projects. This seems doable
for a relative beginner to hack away at. Failure is, of course, an
option. But is would be an opportunity for someone familiar with PHP but
without extensive experience to add a few tricks to their bag. Nothing
ventured, nothing gained.

That's not to say that the OP would get the same quality as someone
with experience, but he could get something functional.

The core AJAX is fairly easy. There's a good bit of work on the money
end though and that is the crux of the matter.

Otherwise, finding experienced programmers to work for maybe money is
a doubtful proposition.

Silly post... he is looking for people interested in the job, not the
personal opinion of someone who does not like this kind of deal.

There are many ways of doing business, the deal might not at be bad
for you.

But, that also was not the question, so I better stop typing now.

Posting jobs in a technical group that does not have jobs in it's title
usually gives you a tougher response than that.

People who have ideas often overestimate their worth. If an idea is
genuinely good then there should be no difficulty raising capital for a
share of the equity. That capital can be used to pay programmers.

It's a no brainer - if people with money won't invest why do you think a
programmer will/should be any different?

I've worked on more than one speculative project where I got paid but
the marketing company pushing it was doing it for equity. I'm just glad
I got paid because the projects bombed. One of them even had some
serious money spent on TV advertising.

The person with the idea needs to be able to put a lot into it. Lets
say you distribute widgets and want to get into online sales. You have
the expertise, the knowledge , the inventory, the contacts etc. You
might just be able to get someone to work for equity then. But if you
had all that you'd probably be able to finance it yourself and keep all
the equity.

'Just an idea' will almost never work.
