I have a computer with Access 2002 and every time you open a database it comes up with the security warning. However, when I go to Macros to select Security, security is grayed out. I have never seen this before. This computer does have Visual Basic on it, wouldn't think that matters, but my others do not.
How can I change that security setting or get that so it is accessible to set the security settings and no longer receive that message.
Thanks! |

Access 2002 doesn't have macro security so you can't set it to low. That requires Access 2003 or 2007.
Please post the security warning message.

Sorry, you're right, it's 2003. The security warning says Security Warning in the top of the message box and tells you that opening (path and name of database) This file may not be safe if it contains code that was intended to harm your computer. Do you want to open this file or cancel the operation.
Button choices are Cancel Open or More Info.
You can set the Macro Security settings to low and not receive this anymore, which is what we want so that every database doesn't give this message. Databases are blocked in our email so we are not concerned about that.
Thanks!

Your macro security is set to the default, medium. To change it, open Access (without opening a db file). Click on Tools > macro. Is security still grayed out?
If it's not, click on security and click on low. When the dialog closes, the next message pops up "Unsafe expressions are blocked... Do you want to allow the evaluation of potentially unsafe expressions?" Click on the "Yes" button.
If it's grayed out it means your admins won't let users change the setting in the registry.
If you trust the person who sent you the db, have them digitally sign the db or if the db doesn't have user level security, you could open the db with an automation security vb script to avoid the security warnings. Scan the db file with an antivirus scanner before you open the db the first time.
