My IE7 started today as if it were the first startup after install. I
had to start over with setting my preferences. What could have caused
this.

Please try the IE7 group.
The recommended newsgroup is microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

Hi,
IE7 questions should be posted to
microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general
or
LINK

But, since you're here...
Did you use the Reset IE Settings Button in Internet Options> Advanced?

In another step of progress, I posted in the IE6 group.

Hey, give me a break.
The IE5 newsgroup had IE5 in the name.
The IE6 newsgroup had IE6 in the name.

So I searched for an IE7. The French were consistent and continued
their the series with IE7 in their name. I guess the Americans are
less bound by tradition.

Thanks for pointing me to internetexplorer.general.
