How do you make NTBACKUP back up open files?

We use ntbackup to back up our server each night. Normally this works
fine but since introducing a remote access solution for staff it seems
that if staff leave a server based program open on their workstations
the backup system doesn't back the files up.

This is beginning to get problematic as some important data is being
excluded from the backup.

Other than trying to make sure that staff close programs is there
anything else I can do to make sure that the data is backed up
successfully?

Is there a way of automatically closing programs at a certain time?

thanks in advance.

When creating the backup job through the wizard, you should click
the "Advanced" button and enable volume shadow copy.

Google is your friend. I typed this into a Google search window

"shadow copy" "windows 2000"

and got this link straight away:

I don't think that will help him, as that is the shadow copy client.
The server still needs to be running Windows 2003 or better.

You might be able to use PSFILE to close the open file.

Is restarting the server before the backup starts an option? A server
restart can be automated as well.
