Recently I had to re-install my OS;Windows XP Media
Center Edition 2005. I also installed SP3 after using the HP patch
program for AMD processors before I installed anything else.
After transferring some files back from my USB backup external hard
drive, I noticed that the system ID was not the same as it was in the
previous installation. (I had kept the old system ID number in a Word
file.)
I have a piece of software that uses the system ID,a serial number and
a activation number to make sure it can only be installed on one
computer.
Is there a way I can change back to the old sysyem ID number, so I can
get the software up an running again?
BTW this is not the product number. It seems it is created when the
hard drive is formatted before installing the OS( A guess).

Do a Google search for "SID changer" and you will find there are quite a
range of programs available to change a PC's system ID, from commercial to
shareware and freeware.
