I know this question was posted earlier this year, but the solution posted didn't work for me.
The problem is - I am using Office 2007, on Windows Vista. It has been fine, and all of a sudden, I can no longer use my mouse within Word Documents. I can't select text, click around the document, right click, or basically do anything with my mouse. The only way to move around within a document is by using my arrow keys. Then when I go to close the document it tells me there is a problem that Windows is trying to fix, and then closes itself.
The solution posted that didn't work for me (it did work for that person) is - "The DataKey MUST be in the registry: it cannot work at all without a DataKey. You need to find and delete it.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data "
I followed this step, opened Word again, but same problem. Any ideas? Any help is much appreciated, Linda. |

You probably have two problems here - one a defective template or add-in (see LINK then LINK ) the other related to your mouse driver. See if there's an update and if you are using intellitype software to enhance your mouse performance, that should be updated and or uninstalled.

Aghghg!! Me too!!! Everything fine until 2 days ago when I could no longer use mouse cursor to select/edit text in old or new word 2007 doc. Arrow keys-yes. Mouse-no. And, same error message as you're getting.
Wonder if it has to do with one of the automatic updates installed.....I'll try the solution you referenced and the suggestion of a "defective template" from Graham. At least it's nice to know it isn't just me and the old "operator error".
I'll keep watching posts for other solutions. Please post if you find one yourself. |

Linda, I wholly sympathize with your problem. I too have just had the no select problem with my cursor in Office Word 2007 Vista. Not only that but clicking on the slider is also useless, I must use the double arrows up or down. It makes Word totally useless. I went to a 'clean registry site' and there I found a piece of software that 'guarantees' it will fix it. $20 later no go it does not work.
You may be right that it could be a Microsoft up date problem because my dates are similar to yours.
Please post anyone with help. Too bad Microsoft does not allow us to report problems to them.
