Now first off I know my computer caught a virus/malware/spyware whatever you
call it. I haven't been able to solve the problem yet and pop-ups keep
showing up on my screen. So I decided to tackle the other problem first. Ever
since I caught the virus my automatic updates got turned off.
I did the standard go to Security Center to turn it on. -> didn't work.
Went to Control Panel -> System -> Automatic Updates -> It was already on
"Automatic (Recommended)
Went to services.msc through the Run command and tried to enable Automatic
Updates, but when I click apply it just goes right back to disable.
I'm wondering if this is because of the virus. I can't go on Internet
browsers on my computer to solve this problem because whenever I do 40
pop-ups come up at the same time and my computer freezes.
How would you suggest me to fix this? and is fixing Automatic Updates a big
concern for my current issue?

Hello lilone,
First you have to clean your PC, and later upgrade\updates.
A very good antimalware app is SUPERAntiSpyware.
There is a free version (on demand scanning only).
SUPERAntiSpyware (Home Edition is Free)

the paid for version includes active monitoring, similar to Windows defender:
Easily remove pests and threat components such as VirusRay, AntiVirGear,

it's scanning right now. and like within the first 10 seconds it found a
couple things that my symantec antivirus program (with daily updated
definitions too!) nor spybot found.... hopefully this would get rid of
everything!!

Judging from similar posts here in the past month or so, the behavior may be
due to a Vundo-ZLOB-SDBot infection, all of which is protected by a rootkit.
Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software

Hi! So I downloaded the SUPERAntiSpyware last night and scanned my computer
with it... it found a lot of "infected items" though a lot of it were cookies
from random pop-ups sites that I don't think are that harmful it's still nice
to get rid of it. The computer ran a bit better after that. However this
morning when I turned on my computer, I left to watch TV for a bit and when I
came back the computer was frozen and when I tried to restart it it said
something like "other users are logged onto this computer. data would be
lost" etc. (don't remember the exact words.) But this means others still have
access to my computer?

| Lilon, I have the same problem and caught the virus/malware the same way. I believe we can only get rid of this virus/malware problem if we can finally enable (on a stayable basis) the automatic updates. .. Sure wish someone will come up with the solution. |
