Can't change a cell name back

I had a cell named "MP2OZ". It was supposed to be "ML2OZ" for
milliliters to ounces. When I noticed the typo, I selected the cell,
then clicked in the Name Box, and typed the correct name.

As soon as I did it, I realized that this would not change the
formulas that use that name. So, I changed it back (to MP2OZ) and then
opened up the Name Manager (Ctrl+F3) and tried to change MP2OZ to
ML2OZ. The Name Manager says that both the old and new names are
already in use and to choose a different name.

But the Name Manager only shows the one name (MP2OZ). It does not show
ML2OZ.

How can I change this cell to "ML2OZ" and have all of the formulas
updated?

Get hold of Jan Karel Pietere's NameManager utility,
LINK This allows such
functionality as well as much more.

OK, I'll look into it. Thanks.

Is there a way change the name without an add-in utility?

PS: That website has a little design glitch. Near the bottom, where it
shows the rating, clicking on the stars will actually submit a rating.
I clicked on it thinking it worked like the one on amazon, which takes
you to the ratings. I happened to click on star #4, so it got a rating
of 4. Not good human factors.

You can, but it means finding all cells that reference it and changing them,
then delete the name and add a new on.

But the addin is far simpler.

I have no idea about the ratings, I use UseNet, and we don't see that here.

In Excel 2007, choose Formulas | Define Name, or choose Formulas | Name

In pre-2007, choose Insert | Name | Define.

But that doesn't delete the original name or change the formulae that refer
to that original name.

You might want to go back and read the OP's original message in this
thread... unless I am misreading it, he is already familiar with the Name
Manager... he has a side issue with attempting to use it that he wants to be
rescued from.

Rick -

I did read the OP's original message before posting, and I concluded that
either she didn't know how to delete a name using the Name Manager, or she
didn't know how to change names that are used in formulas, or both.

So, I was trying to suggest that, instead of trying to use the Name Manager
to change a name directly in a single step, she (a) delete the old undesired
name, (b) define the new name, and (c) replace the old with new in formulas
using Replace.

First she wrote: "...But the Name Manager only shows the one name (MP2OZ).
It does not show ML2OZ."

So she should be able to delete MP2OZ, which is the defined name that she
doesn't want.

Then she wrote: "How can I change this cell to "ML2OZ" and have all of the
formulas
updated?"

After deleting MP2OZ, she should be able to define the desired ML2OZ.

And then she can change formulas by choosing Home | Find & Select | Replace
....

This is only true if the original name is manually changed first. If I
do it all through the Name Manager, and keep my fingers off the Name
Box, then all is good.
