I said did you reboot after renaming the softwaredistribution folder? And then try WU
again.

You have not yet confirmed that you are using Vista or Windows XP. I'm only guessing as
you mention Windows Update Service and that you have not got Automatic Update Service.

If Vista, did you view the tutorial.where it says you are using Windows Updates only and
given the option to get updates for more products?
You are aware of the fact that if you are using Vista, you cannot visit the website for
updates.

Before continuing please confirm what operating system you are using.

I am using Windows Vista Home Premium. I didn't reboot after renaming it. how
do I get the update history back? It won't let me rename it back. and I was

1. The most important partis being able to view installed updates. You don't
need the history it's not important. (See it in the tutorial down the bottom
on the left in the picture).

2. You should have the option to get updates for more products under "you
receive updates for Windows only" - this option was clearly visible in the
pictures in the tutorial.

3. "If I got Automatic Update service would I be able to access Microsoft
Update? If so How do I get it"

You can't get this, you're using Vista.
